Strategic Guidelines
JJ&R believes that pursuit of clinical excellence is the “sine qua non” of medical practice, and our first objective is to provide our patients with highest quality emergency medical care possible. Our pursuit of this objective supersedes all other considerations. Given the above, JJ&R has formulated strategic guidelines, which distinguish our group from other emergency medical providers, including the following:
- JJ&R has developed a stringent quality assurance and risk management program at each of its facilities. All programs have received approval, in fact, commendation, by JCAHO in recent surveys. Additionally, we perform audits on selected clinical or management issues on a group-wide basis.
- Six JJ&R medical directors have become Chief of Staff at their respective hospitals; and two have been appointed to the hospitals’ Governing Board of Directors. One of our medical directors has been elected as President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association; and another director is Chairman of the hospital’s IPA. Other JJ&R physicians have served on county EMS Commissions, Paramedic Advisory Committees and Medical Policy Boards.
- JJ&R departments are characterized by a participatory style. Our style of practice involves the entire department clinical team in the healthcare delivery system of the emergency department. We believe, for instance, that the clinical expertise of nurses is vitally important; therefore, we encourage nurses to participate actively in the decision making process.
- We serve our hospitals by promoting a positive environment for nurses, technicians and clerks who work in our emergency departments. We provide teaching, leadership, emotional support, and foster personal development.
- Finally, we traditionally double-staff our departments when the monthly patient census exceeds 2.0 patients per physician coverage hour. Because different departments have different patient flows and acuity levels, the actual times at which we regularly provide double coverage may vary.
